The first job in Brighton on this lovely Sunny Monday morning for ASL Locksmiths was replacing a failed gearbox on a UPVC door in Dewe Road.
We had a call from a customer in Woodingdean today who explained that he could not open or close the upstairs window properly. We found the hinges had failed. The original installer had used the incorrect stack height (size), this resulted in excess strain and the subsequent failure of the hinge. ASL replacing failed uPVC window hinges.
Here’s another work from ASL Locksmiths in Brighton. It’s a British standard deadlock and sash lock.
We see British standard locks in front and back doors in homes. They’re also in landlord locks and rental property locks.
When you have a British standard lock installed, you get peace of mind because:
– Your doors are thief-resistant and your security is up to standard.
– These locks are already tested against Burglary techniques like drilling and picking.
– They follow your insurance policy. Most of them need this standard as the bare minimum.
Here’s how to tell if your locks are British standard:
– You see the British Standard kitemark. It’s the logo that looks like a heart.
– You see the British Standard number BS3621 stamped below the kitemark.
You can see the kitemark and the number are visible in the picture.

“Pay peanuts, get monkeys”
But it’s a shame when you pay good money and still get a headache, like a store owner in Brighton who paid an extortionate amount of £140 to their local locksmith and only got a broken fire door.
The lock could have been easily picked, or worst-case scenario, drilled out, in order to gain entry.
But the local locksmith (we won’t name names) smashed a hole through the door. Now the store owner has a fire door to replace.
Simply repairing the hole won’t be enough to meet the fire regulation codes.
In their rigorous effort to help, the local locksmith also broke the barrel, resulting in a second lockout. ASL Locksmiths attended the property and we got it done right.
This could’ve been avoided if they worked with the right service providers. Save your money.

ASL was contacted to repair 2 patio uPVC doors in Brighton & Hove as they were no opening or closing properly. We quickly removed the doors and replace the hinges which had rusted. We are also able upgrade locks which should be a priority for older uPVC doors. We also have the skills to replace glass, single and double glazing.
